- Nothing happens at all when you try to start

Why car batteries die
A battery can go dead for many reasons, and some are more common in Missouri weather:
- Lights or accessories left on overnight
- Cold winter mornings, which make batteries work harder
- Hot summers, which wear batteries out faster
- An aging battery. Many last about 3 to 5 years.
- Short trips that don't give the battery time to recharge
- Corroded or loose battery terminals
When not to jump start
Don't try to jump a battery yourself if you notice any of these. Call us instead:
- The battery case is cracked, leaking, or swollen
- You smell rotten eggs near the battery
- You see smoke or sparks under the hood

Next steps
If it starts, you're on your way. If it doesn't, we can tow it to a shop.
After your jump start
Once your car is running, drive it for at least 20 to 30 minutes if you can. That gives the alternator time to recharge the battery. Turning the engine off right away can leave you stuck again.
If your car dies again within a day or two, the battery may need to be replaced, or there may be a problem with the alternator or charging system. Most auto parts stores and repair shops can test your battery.
If it won't start at all, we can tow it to a repair shop.

When a jump start won't fix it
A jump start gets a weak or drained battery going. Sometimes the battery isn't the real problem:
- The car starts, then dies again soon after. The alternator may not be charging the battery.
- The engine clicks but won't crank, even with a jump. It could be the starter or a bad connection.
- The battery is swollen, cracked or leaking. Don't try to jump it. Call us and we'll talk through the safe option.
- A battery or charging warning shows while driving. That usually points to the charging system.
If a jump start doesn't keep you going, we can tow your vehicle to a shop in Springfield or wherever you choose.
